DOULAS OFFER MORE THAN A BETTER BIRTH

Aside from having a doula present at the birth, having a doula as a part of your pregnancy and postpartum experience can also have many benefits including:

Benefits during pregnancy

  • Better prenatal care: A doula will work with you to make sure that you are satisfied with your care provider. We can also help facilitate more beneficial conversations with your provider to insure that you are getting the best care possible.

  • Feeling more confident and prepared when labor and birth occur: During prenatal visits, your doula can help you prepare for labor and birth so it feels more familiar and comfortable, even if it's your first time giving birth.

  • Confidence in your partner's ability to support you during labor and birth: A doula can help your birth partner find the best ways to support you. We can practice different comfort techniques so your partner can be more confidently involved in the process.

Benefits during postpartum

  • Easier transition: By offering postpartum tips, tricks, and planning, a doula can help you feel more confident in the transition from pregnancy to parenthood. Even if this is not your first child, a doula can help you brainstorm ideas on how to help each member of the family adjust to having a new baby.

  • Stronger support system: Doulas are equipped with all kinds of creative ideas on how to ask for productive support from family and friends. I also offer postpartum doula support, where I provide services such as meal prep, light house chores, limited childcare and infant care support, as well as postpartum healing support. Check out my services page to learn more.

  • Increased success in breastfeeding: With helpful breastfeeding knowledge as well as a resource list of other breastfeeding support practitioners, doulas can assist you in having a successful and fulfilling breastfeeding experience.
